WebOrbiton Outage. What Happened?
Today, our WebOrbiton project experienced a prolonged service outage following a series of updates to our homepage. We want to be transparent about what happened, what went wrong, and how we are addressing the issue.
What Caused the Outage?
Earlier today, our team deployed several improvements related to the WebOrbiton homepage. While these changes were intended to enhance performance and user experience, they unfortunately introduced unexpected issues into the system.
As part of the update, the website required a new server configuration. This reconfiguration significantly affected platform stability and made troubleshooting more complex. As a result, restoring full functionality took considerably longer than anticipated.
Timeline of the Incident
Earlier today – Homepage improvements were deployed.
Following the deployment – Instability and repeated errors began to occur.
20:00 (8:00 PM) – The final outage occurred, caused by a faulty script that overloaded the server.
The broken script generated excessive server load, which ultimately led to service unavailability.
Impact on Users
While our core infrastructure was affected, the WebOrbiton Status Monitoring system remained fully operational and was not impacted by this incident. This issue was not related to our monitoring servers.
However, users attempting to download WebOrbiton from our website may have experienced errors, slowdowns, or temporary unavailability during the outage window.
Resolution and Next Steps
Our team worked extensively to identify and remove the faulty script, stabilize the server configuration, and restore normal service operations. We are also reviewing our deployment and testing procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Our Apology
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by today’s outage. We understand how important reliability is to our users, and we take full responsibility for this disruption.
Thank you for your patience and continued support.
